I've felt more earthquakes in the last week than all the time I've been in Japan. The initial earthquake last weekend rattled this apartment quite impressively. Over 30 people dead and thousands of people still living in temporary shelter in Niigata.
A man near the epicenter was being interviewed by phone live on TV when the first aftershock happened. He shouted in shock, 10 or 20 seconds later the tremor reached the Tokyo newsroom and seconds afterwards the lamp shades in our apartment were swinging.
And if you think that's scary, how about this?
We'll be making an earthquake kit this weekend.

A queue for the tiniest tattiest noodle shop I've even seen I think. They must make some mean ramen.

A leviathan typhoon hit Japan yesterday. It was raining so heavily when I got off the train at the station that I had to take a taxi the 500m to our house.
Didn't suffer any damage here, but half of the sucker attached hooks holding up utensils in our kitchen came clattering down when the typhoon arrived. The change in air pressure I presume.

They are installing an elevator in our local train station. This man was wiping the dust off each individual bike parked under the construction sight. That's customer care!

Sun - UA Japan's Bjork. Just as good, probably even weirder. Aslo has her own children's program and has just released an album of nursery rhymes. Build that fanbase early!

I covered the International Cooperation Festival in Hibiya last Sunday. About 200 different NGOs. The weather was terrible. Interesting event, though.
